CS373 Spring 2020: Sonali Bhat
Post #4!

What did you do this past week?
This week, I finished the final touches on Collatz to turn in by Tuesday night. We learned about our new project in class on Wednesday, and my group was excited to begin. I met up with my group for about 3 hours on Wednesday to discuss topic ideas and find data sets to support our project. We found a topic that we were all interested in. We created a slack and a git repository. On Friday, we worked to put together our proposal for our topic and now we are waiting for approval.
What’s in your way?
Nothing really is in my way. We were concerned about not getting our top choice for project topic, so we tried to have our proposal ready as soon as possible. We were the first to submit it, so we are all feeling pretty good!
What will you do next week?
Next week, I’m planning on meeting up with my group to make significant progress on project #2. We are all excited to start working on this project, and I think it’ll be a lot of fun!
What was your experience of Project #1: Collatz (the problem, the overkill requirements of submission, etc.)?
It was my first time working with a lot of the tools that we were required to use, but I think it was a good experience to get familiar with them. I didn’t find the problem itself to be difficult. I only struggled with an edge case that kept me from passing the final test. I eventually figured it out from a hint on piazza to re-read the problem description, specifically the input information. I found the tools required for the project to be very useful, and I’m glad that I now know how to use them for the future.
What made you happy this week?
I was happy that my group managed to submit our project proposal before another group proposed a project with a similar theme. All of the members of my group are passionate about our topic!
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
Sometimes it’s good to take breaks! Your brain will work better when you take time to step away from your computer and get some fresh air. It’s also important to make sure to eat! Looking at a bug with a clear mind can give you a new perspective, which may make something that you were previously struggling with now trivial!
Good luck everyone!
