CS373 Spring 2020: Sonali Bhat

Hi! My name is Sonali Bhat and this is my first post in a series that I will be continuing as I go through CS 373: Software Engineering!

Where did grow up?

I grew up in Plano, Texas, which is a city just a little north of Dallas!

What was your favorite extracurricular activity in high school?

My favorite extracurricular activity in high school was Band. I played the flute during concert season, however for marching season, I would switch to playing in the front ensemble (a percussion section).

Being a part of my high school marching band was one my most defining high school experiences. Every morning in the fall semester, we would get to school early to rehearse for an hour and a half before classes started. We spent so much time together, from practicing in rehearsals to going to football games and UIL competitions, that we really became a family. I made some really good friends through Band, and I’ll treasure those memories forever.

Why are you in this class?

I’m in this class because I’m hoping to gain some familiarity with tools that are currently popular in the industry. I hope to learn more about what it would be like to work on the front end/be a full stack developer because so far, I mainly have experience doing back end coding. I would like the experience of working with a team to take a large scale project and see it through to completion.

How much Javascript/Python/Web programming do you already know?

I am comfortable using Python, however I have very little knowledge of JavaScript/Web programming.

What made you happy this week?

This past weekend, my roommate threw me a belated birthday celebration (my birthday took place over break). We invited a couple of our close friends over to our apartment for a dinner party. My roommate surprised me with some beautiful decorations on the wall and a gorgeous mango cake! I really enjoyed the time I got to spend with my friends.
